“The People We Are” is a non-profit people oriented entity. Kyle Maillet formed this blog on September 20, 2019 for the purpose of helping combat sensational and misleading news with well sourced articles and average content. The main methods used in order to accomplish these goals are: average and mundane content with an emotionally, physically, or socially applicable benefit; a shift towards visual and auditory story telling accompanied by poetic and descriptive styled text; and a willingness to publish and share the stories of anybody on nearly anything*.

“The People We Are” was founded in Kamloops, BC, through Thompson Rivers University on unceded Secwepemc territory. Kamloops is located in southern central British Columbia on unceded Secwepemc territory and was founded in 1811 as a fur trading post. Now Kamloops is a medium sized city with a population of 90,280[1].

About Kyle

Kyle is taking a bachelors degree in journalism with a focus on communications and online journalism. His education started in 2019 and will end in 2024. Thompson Rivers University was the first location in British Columbia to offer an undergraduate degree in the field of journalism which was an incentive for Kyle choosing TRU. The program first became available in 1998. As of 2019 the program chair is Charles Hays. Kyle advocates both recognizing the indigenous cultures in Canada as well as pursuing the calls to action that have been brought up to the Government of Canada. The recognition of the unceded Secwepemc territory that TRU expresses is important as a moral and empathetic expression on behalf of TRU.
